1. About TaxKit

TaxKit is a WhatsApp-first tax companion for South African freelancers and small businesses. It is operated by K2026428132 (South Africa), a private company registered in South Africa under registration number 2026/428132/07, with its registered office at 24 Willow Road, Northcliff, Johannesburg, Gauteng, 2194 ("TaxKit", "we", "us", "our"). "TaxKit" is the trading name we use for the service.

2. Your account

Your WhatsApp number is your account. The first time you message TaxKit, we create an account keyed to that number — there is no separate sign-up or password. You are responsible for the security of the device and WhatsApp account you use. To sign in to the dashboard, you request a one-time magic link that is sent to your WhatsApp number.

You must be at least 18 years old and authorised to accept these terms (on your own behalf or for the business you represent).

3. Free and paid plans

The Free plan is permanent. Capturing receipts and mileage on WhatsApp, logging trips, and asking tax questions are free for everyone, with no time-boxed trial.

On the Free plan, the dashboard shows full line-item detail for the most recent 30 days; older entries are shown as category totals. Your data is never deleted — subscribing to TaxKit Pro restores the display of older detail (retroactively) and unlocks export and unlimited bank-statement imports.

4. Subscription & billing

TaxKit Pro is billed annually. The founding rate is R300 per year, locked in for as long as your subscription remains active if you subscribe before 28 February 2027. After that date the standard rate of R699 per year applies to new subscribers. Prices include VAT where applicable.

Payments are processed by PayFast, our third-party payment provider. We do not store your card details. Your subscription renews automatically each year on the anniversary of your payment, at the rate locked to your account, unless you cancel before the renewal date.

5. Cancellation & refunds

How to cancel

You can cancel at any time from your billing page at taxkit.co.za/app/billing, or by messaging us on WhatsApp or emailing hello@taxkit.co.za. Cancelling stops the next automatic renewal.

What happens to your access

When you cancel, you keep full TaxKit Pro access until the end of your current paid period — the renewal date shown on your billing page. We do not cut your access off early. After that date, your account moves to the permanent Free plan; nothing is deleted, and you can re-subscribe at any time.

Refunds

We offer a 7-day cooling-off period. If you cancel within 7 days of a payment — whether your first payment or an annual renewal — we will refund that payment in full on request. This is in line with your cooling-off rights under the South African Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, 2002 (ECTA).

After the 7-day cooling-off period, payments are non-refundable for the remainder of that annual period. You will not be charged again once you have cancelled, and you keep access until the period ends as described above.

To request a cooling-off refund, email hello@taxkit.co.za from the contact details on your account, with your payment date or reference. Approved refunds are returned via PayFast to your original payment method, typically within 5–10 business days depending on your bank.

6. Acceptable use

You agree to use TaxKit only for your own genuine tax record-keeping, and not to: upload content you have no right to; attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorised access to the service; or use it for anything unlawful. We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms or abuse the service.

7. Not tax advice

TaxKit helps you organise records and gives general, automated information about South African tax. It is not professional tax, accounting, or legal advice, and we are not your accountant or tax practitioner. Some categorisation and answers are generated by AI and may be incomplete or wrong — you are responsible for reviewing your records and any return before it is filed. For advice on your specific situation, consult a registered tax practitioner. TaxKit is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the South African Revenue Service (SARS).

8. Liability

The service is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any tax, penalty, or interest arising from your use of, or reliance on, TaxKit. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 or other applicable law that cannot lawfully be excluded.

9. Your data

We process your information to provide the service, as described in our Privacy Policy. You retain ownership of the receipts, mileage, and other records you capture. We do not sell your data.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "last updated" date above and, where appropriate, let you know on WhatsApp or the dashboard. Continuing to use TaxKit after a change means you accept the updated terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction over any dispute, without affecting any consumer rights you have to approach the National Consumer Commission or another competent forum.
